Using the side entrance

On a recent morning at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, if you had entered up the grand staircase and then wanted to check your coat, here is the line that you would have had to stand in. This is after standing in another line to get your tickets:

Meanwhile, if you had entered along the nondescript entrance fifty paces south along the facade, the one marked for school groups, you could have walked right up to the coat attendants:

The main entrance is more obvious, but it often pays to look for the overlooked side entrance.

Sometimes the best way to compete is to find a space without any competition at all.
