A new point of view in 2011

One thing I'm doing at the beginning of this new year is subscribing to some political magazines with points of view that I disagree with. 

How could a serious thinker argue that global warming is a hoax?
How could a decent person oppose the health care bill?

By taking the other side seriously, I'm hoping to identify and explore my own assumptions about the world.

By reading reporting that I disagree with, I hope to sharpen my ability to spot flaws in an argument.

By working to understand opposing points of view, I'm hoping to increase my own creativity.

I don't expect to be convinced by the arguments, but I feel it is important that I'm open to that possibility.
